The Medical City’s Center for Advanced Skills, Simulation and Training Innovation (CASSTI) is a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary and surgical training facility that was officially launched on September 12, 2014. It aims to provide surgical expertise and the ideal environment for skills acquisition for healthcare professionals.
This modern facility is designed as an interactive environment for training and instruction and an ideal venue for helping medical professionals advance and improve their skills and proficiencies.
CASSTI is a multispecialty training center that involves the following clinical disciplines through the use of varied simulation modalities (live animal, animal tissue, inanimate and virtual reality models):
The center features five video endoscopic stations for live surgery on animal models as well as a virtual reality simulator – the first in the country. It has the capability for live operating room transmission to and from the operating suites and the center or from The Medical City (TMC) to remote locations such as any of the TMC hospitals (i.e. TMC Iloilo, TMC Clark or Guam Regional Medical City). It is equipped with video and teleconferencing capabilities that can be utilized for regular teleconferencing meetings by high-speed internet connection. With these capabilities tele-surgery as well as real time teleconferencing lectures and courses can be conducted.
The Center for Advanced Skills, Simulation and Training Innovation offers a line-up of short courses that are open to practicing clinicians, fellows and residents from The Medical City as well as from other training institutions. These courses are also open to Operating Room (OR) nurses, technicians, and medical students. The Center also welcomes consultants who seek to strengthen and refine their clinical and surgical skills.
