The Medical City's Institute for Women’s Health (IWH) recognizes that the best way to understand women’s health is to view a woman’s life comprehensively across her lifespan.
IWH offers a comprehensive health care for women, by empowering them to improve their health and wellness at every stage of their lives. IWH provides comprehensive services specializing in pregnancy and birth, imaging and ultrasound, fertility and reproductive health, gynecology, cancer and minimally invasive surgery.
Women’s health begins at birth. A healthy pregnancy and childbirth ensure a healthy newborn period. In early childhood, health depends on proper nutrition, physical activity, and appropriate immunizations. As girls become teens and young adults, reproductive issues begin, as well as lifestyle issues including awareness, prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, infertility treatments, prenatal and postnatal services, and family planning services. As women grow older, their health needs change. In middle age, preventive screenings become important. In older women, management of chronic diseases become important as does screening for and knowledge about cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, breast cancer, and gynecologic cancers. Mental health and wellness throughout a woman’s lifespan greatly affect her overall health as well.
