The Medical City’s Department of Medicine is the hospital’s biggest department composed of consultant staff that is well-trained and experienced in the various fields of practice.
The Department’s officers and medical staff share a common passion to render the best medical care available, based on strong patient partnership and grounded on accepted standards of medical care. This is also supported with medical researches and findings, gained here and abroad.
Currently, the Department continues to update its management and treatment protocols, and training programs to maintain high quality standards of medical care of patients, training of doctors, nurses and the medical community as a whole.

OUR SERVICES
The Section of Adult Intensive Care Medicine is a multidisciplinary healthcare specialty for adult patients with unstable or life-threatening conditions.
The Section of Allergy and Immunology is composed of board certified physicians who specialize in diagnosing and treating allergic and immunologic disorders. These specialists offer expert care for many conditions such as allergic rhinosinusitis, asthma, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, food allergy, drug allergy, angioedema, urticaria, and other diseases that affect the immune system such as immunodeficiency disorders and autoimmune diseases. The section offers a variety of tests and treatments for these complex conditions including allergy testing, allergy immunotherapy (allergy shots), drug desensitization, and cellular therapy (including stem cell therapy). The allergy and immunology team also works with other experts to make sure the patients benefit from the knowledge of multiple specialists.
The Section of Cardiology involves the recognition and management of common or complicated cardiovascular diseases. It also includes applying the principles of cardiovascular therapeutics.
The Section of Dermatology involves the recognition and management of common skin, hair and nail diseases and the treatment of cosmetic problems related to the skin and its appendages.
The services of the Section of Endocrinology and Metabolism include the diagnosis and management of diabetes mellitus, metabolic abnormalities, obesity, and hormonal disorders due to diseases of the endocrine organs, which include the pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid gland, adrenal gland, pancreas, ovary and testes.

The Section of Gastroenterology involves the diagnosis and treatment of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas and biliary tract. It also includes the study of these organs in relation to the disorders of other organ systems. Basic nutrition assessment and counseling; as well as nutritional deficiencies and management are also included.
The Section of Geriatrics involves the understanding of the normal and abnormal process of aging, atypical presentation of illness, common geriatric syndromes and differences in the natural history of specific disease in older adults.
The Section of Hematology involves both the laboratory and clinical aspects of the proper diagnosis and management of blood disorders: anemia, polycythemia, leukemia, lymphoma, thrombocytopenia, thrombocytosis and multiple myeloma as well as therapeutic interventions for a wide variety of conditions such as apheresis, chemotherapy and stem cell transplantation (autologous and allogeneic).
The Section of Infectious Disease involves the proper diagnosis and management of a wide array of infectious diseases commonly seen in the medical practice in the Philippines.
The Section of Internal Medicine involves the management of a wide and comprehensive spectrum of illnesses that affect adults. General internists are known as experts in diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic diseases as well as health promotion and disease prevention. They often care for their patients over the duration of their adult lives, providing them an opportunity to create lasting and rewarding personal relationships with their patients. They also coordinate with other medical specialists in managing difficult and complicated medical cases. General internists also educate patients on wellness, women's health, mental health and provide effective treatment for common problems of the eyes, ears, skin, nervous system and reproductive system.
The services offered are out-patient consultation, hospital admissions and wellness packages.
The Section of Medical Nutrition is composed of medical physicians formally trained in the field of nutrition. Medical nutrition involves the assessment and management of malnutrition and its complications in different health aspects – from outpatient wellness to various disease entities both acute (i.e. hospitalized patients, critical illness, perioperative nutrition) and chronic (i.e. cancer, diabetes mellitus, renal disease, obesity, gastrointestinal disturbances, anorexia). This also involves the management of patients across all ages (children, adult, geriatric, pregnant). The Section is also responsible for educating, training and coordinating nutrition management among medical trainees and allied professionals (nurses, pharmacists, dietitians) involved in patient care. It also organizes and works closely with the nutrition support team of the hospital.
The Section of Nephrology involves the diagnosis and basic management of uncomplicated diseases of the kidneys, its contiguous collecting system and vasculature, including the recognition of indications for referral at the appropriate time to a nephrologist.
At the Section of Oncology, Medical Oncologists play a vital and dynamic role in the multidisciplinary team of TMC healthcare specialists. They give personalized care to all cancer patients. Together with them, the patient and doctor move forward towards better health outcomes by giving tailored treatments best suited to individual needs and values.
The Section of Palliative Care Medicine focuses on the effective management of pain and other distressing symptoms that cause strain, anxiety and suffering for the patient. Its goal is to anticipate, prevent and reduce suffering and to support the best possible quality of life for patients and their families, regardless of the stage of the disease or the need for other therapies. Palliative care begins at diagnosis and should be delivered concurrently with disease-directed, life-prolonging therapies and should facilitate patient autonomy, access to information, and choice.

The Section of Rheumatology involves proper training in the diagnosis (detection) and treatment of musculoskeletal disease and systemic autoimmune conditions commonly referred to as rheumatic diseases.
Their services are Consultations, Joint injections and aspirations, Bursa and tendon injections, laboratory procedures, rehab care and X-ray, among others.
The Section of Toxicology involves managing cases of poisoning. It also utilizes current updated databases in the management of poisoning cases.
The services of the Toxicology Section include:
Management of acute and chronic poisoning cases associated with chemicals
Chelation treatment for heavy metal poisoning
Detoxification of drug abuse cases and treatment of withdrawal syndromes
Co-management with Psychiatrists in cases of drug abuse and suicidal poisoning
Treatment of poisoning/stings/bites by insects, snakes, marine organisms
Treatment of poisoning associated with poisonous plants

Residency Training Program in Internal Medicine
The three-year residency training program in Internal Medicine, that is given full accreditation by the Philippine College of Physicians (PCP), aims to develop professional and skilled internists who will lead in setting the highest standards in the medical diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of adult diseases in the country. It also aims to prepare its graduates for further training in sub-specialties. The department takes pride in producing graduates, now sub-specialists, who are leading and excelling in their fields.
