PATHOLOGY SERVICES OFFERED

• Excellent cytologic examinations of fine needle aspirates of the breast
• Excellent histopathologic examinations of the breast specimens
• Hormone receptor assays ( Estrogen and Progesterone Receptor Assays)
• Her 2/neuTesting using Immunohistochemistry

ADJUVANT TREATMENT OFFERED

• Treatment in addition to surgery for early stage Breast Cancer to reduce chance of cancer coming back in the breast / in other parts of the body.
• Adjuvant may include chemotherapy, or hormonal therapy to improve the chance of long term survival with chemotherapy / hormonal therapy or radiotherapy to prevent the cancer from coming back in or around the breast.
• Chemotherapy is administered in the Chemotherapy Unit of the Cancer Center.

Chemotherapy

• A group of drugs which can be given intravenously or taken orally
• Usually given once a month for 6 months
• Whether it should be given depends on the age of the patient and the characteristics of the tumor.

Hormonal therapy

• The growth of many Breast cancers appears to be enhanced by the female hormone estrogen.  Hormonal therapy stops estrogen from being able to encourage the growth of Breast cancer cells.
• Only given to women whose cancer has estrogen/progesterone receptors.
• Taken as tablets, once a day and is very well tolerated.

Targeted Therapy

• A special drug given to target tumors with the her2/neureceptor.
• Usually given intravenously, once a month for one year
