Chikiting Ligtas: Addressing the Gap in Immunization Coverage

This collaborative initiative aims to bridge the gap in immunization coverage and provide supplemental immunization against measles, rubella, and polio for children below 5 years of age.

The Philippines has been grappling with two major public health crises in recent times - the COVID-19 pandemic and low immunization coverage for children. The pandemic has disrupted routine health services, causing a decline in immunization coverage and leaving children vulnerable to vaccine-preventable diseases. In response, the Department of Health and the Pasig Local Government has partnered with The Medical City to launch the "Chikiting Ligtas" campaign.

This collaborative initiative aims to bridge the gap in immunization coverage and provide supplemental immunization against measles, rubella, and polio for children below 5 years of age. By doing so, the campaign seeks to protect children against the risk of outbreaks of these vaccine-preventable diseases. The Medical City and its partners also aim to raise awareness about the importance of vaccination and encourage parents to prioritize their children's immunization needs to ensure their health and safety.

The vaccination campaign will be intensive and simultaneous, with open eligibility for all children below 5 years of age, regardless of their immunization status. The schedule of the campaign is as follows:

  • May 8 to May 13, from 9 am to 12 noon at the 6th floor Barcelon Auditorium Lobby
  • May 22-25 and May 29, from 9 am to 12 noon at the 6th floor Barcelon Auditorium Lobby
  • May 30-31, from 9 am to 12 noon at the GF TMC Foyer

The Medical City and its partners have put in place safety protocols to ensure the safety of both healthcare workers and patients during the vaccination campaign. They have also made arrangements to accommodate the large number of children expected to participate in the campaign.

Vaccination is a critical component of public health, and it is essential to ensure that children receive their vaccinations on time. The "Chikiting Ligtas" campaign is a commendable effort by The Medical City and its partners to address the low immunization coverage in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Parents and caregivers must take advantage of this opportunity to vaccinate their children and protect them against the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases.
