First in the Philippines: The Medical City acquires Lumenis Holmium Moses 2.0 Machine for gentle and less invasive prostate and kidney stones treatment

TMC continues to be at the forefront of medical innovation with the acquisition of the Lumenis Moses 2.0, making them the first and only hospital in the Philippines to offer this latest advancement in treating benign prostate enlargement (BPH) and kidney stones.

On June 2024, The Medical City made a huge leap of advancement solidifying its position as a leader in urological services through the acquisition of the Lumenis Moses 2.0 machine. Enhancing the hospital’s capabilities in performing laser lithotripsy, this state-of the art technology offers a minimally invasive procedure used to treat kidney stones, benign prostate and bladder tumors.

TMC continues to be at the forefront of medical innovation with the acquisition of the Lumenis 2.0, making them the first and only hospital in the Philippines to offer this latest advancement in treating benign prostate enlargement (BPH) and kidney stones.

The Lumenis 2.0 represents the latest in laser technology for stone management. Its unique holmium technology splits the laser beam into two pulses: one to create a vapor bubble and the second to deliver the laser energy directly to the stone. This technique results in more efficient stone fragmentation and dusting, significantly reducing the time required for procedures and improving patient outcomes.

The precision of the Moses 2.0 machine ensures that urologists can target stones with exceptional accuracy, minimizing damage to surrounding tissues. This is particularly beneficial in complex cases where stones are located in hard-to-reach areas. The reduced retropulsion, where fragments are pushed away from the laser, leads to fewer secondary procedures and a higher success rate in completely clearing stones.

During the procedure, the surgeon will insert a tube called a stent between the kidney and the urethra promoting healing and letting stone fragments pass more easily. The inserted stent allows the kidney to drain during the healing process. Stent is removed a week after the surgery. The length of surgery is generally under 1 hour, depending on the size and number of your kidney stones. Use of the dusting technique combined with the Moses effect may decrease the need to remove stones with a basket, thereby minimizing the need to use a stent.

Patients at The Medical City will benefit greatly from this acquisition. The enhanced efficiency of the Moses 2.0 means shorter procedure times, which translates to less anesthesia and quicker recovery compared to traditional surgical methods.

“The TMC Holmium Laser is a groundbreaking advancement in medical technology. Its precision and efficiency allow us to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients. With this new tool, we can perform delicate procedures with minimal discomfort and maximum effectiveness” said Dr. Ian Lorenzo, a urologist at The Medical City.

By integrating this latest modality, The Medical City ensures that patients receive efficient and effective treatment for benign prostate, bladder tumors and kidney stones. TMC’s acquisition of the Lumenis Moses 2.0 machine is a testament of its continuous pursuit of innovation and quality to provide the best possible outcomes through breakthrough medical solutions.
