THE MEDICAL CITY CEO NAMED MOST INSPIRING EXECUTIVE AT ACES AWARDS 2022

Dr. Eugenio Jose F. Ramos, CEO of The Medical City (TMC), was conferred as one of Asia's Most Inspiring Executives at ACES Awards for his leadership during the COVID-19 years, as TMC reorganized its operations to effectively handle both COVID and non-COVID patients.

Dr. Eugenio Jose F. Ramos, Chief Executive Officer of The Medical City (TMC), was conferred as one of Asia’s Most Inspiring Executives at the Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability Awards (ACES) 2022 on November 22 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The ACES Awards acknowledges successful corporations and business leaders in Asia across 2 key domains: leadership and corporate social responsibility, and acknowledges their achievements in consideration of their contributions towards sustainable and exemplary impacts made within their communities, industries, and the immediate world. Over 470 submissions received, 93 were selected as winners across several award categories.

The award, created to identify successful visionaries and help people learn from the success of the awardees, was given to Dr. Ramos for his leadership during the COVID-19 years, as The Medical City re-organized its operations to effectively handle both COVID and non-COVID patients.

To communicate that the hospital is indeed a safe place for all, TMC launched the “TMC One Complex, Two Hospital Systems” in April 2020 at the height of the pandemic. The two-in-one hospital system delineated separate areas and pathways – including emergency rooms, diagnostic labs, hospital wards, and elevators for COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 cases.

Through Dr. Ramos’ leadership, TMC reassured people that it would be safe to visit a hospital to seek treatment for COVID-19 as well as for other reasons. The TMC leaders saw that if people avoided hospitals when they needed urgent treatment, they would only become part of a second pandemic with illnesses that might have been resolved if treated early.

“This allowed our doctors and healthcare workers the safety zone they needed to ensure that their patients would get the care they needed, without fear of COVID infection,” explained Dr. Ramos.

Although the award was given for his inspiring leadership, Dr. Ramos explains that the healthcare workers and the patients of The Medical City were the ones who provided him with the strength and inspiration to face the daunting challenges of the global pandemic.

“There was no rule book to handle a global pandemic that paralyzed our economy. No one knew what we were dealing with – some of our most senior doctors, because of their age, were put at risk, while the others were separated from their families due to quarantine and the risk of infections. Our healthcare workers bravely stayed on duty, and we could do no less,” said Dr. Ramos. “The care and compassion they gave to our patients, despite the risks they faced and the fatigue they endured, was both humbling and inspiring.”

Chairman of The Medical City, Jose Xavier ‘Eckie’ Gonzales, congratulated Dr. Ramos on his award.

“Dr. Gene Ramos is a rare breed of physician – one who not only administers excellent care to his patients but also to the institution that he manages. It is a well-deserved award, as I also get inspiration from his leadership,” Gonzales said.
