The Medical City through its Department of Surgery Section of Head and Neck Surgery hosted the 2nd Philippine Thyroid Ablation Congress and Workshop. During this event, The Medical City was recognized as the first and only formalized training center for thyroid thermal ablation in the Philippines.

Last March 15-16, 2024, The Medical City Department of Surgery, Section of Head and Neck Surgery, in cooperation with the Philippine Academy of Head and Neck Surgery, Philippine College of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, Academy of Head and Neck Oncology of the Philippines and Philippine Society of Ultrasound for Surgeons, hosted the sought-after 2nd Philippine Thyroid Ablation Congress and Workshop. 

Over two electrifying days, the brightest minds in Thyroid Thermal Ablation converged. Experts, practitioners, and passionate advocates shared insights, exchanged ideas, and pushed the boundaries of this emerging game-changing field. Led by seasoned titans of the field like Dr. Wai-Kin Chan, endocrinologist at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan and Dr. Rainer Yu Lutanco, head and neck surgeon at The Medical City, participants honed their skills using state-of-the-art equipment and observed live cases while mastering the theoretical aspects of Thyroid Ablation.


Here's where The Medical City truly shines - At the conclusion of the event, The Medical City, spearheaded by the Section of Head and Neck Surgery, Department of Surgery - was anointed as the first and only formalized training center for thyroid thermal ablation in the Philippines by China Conference on Microwave Ablation (CCMA). 

Another Philippine record was set during this event when the Section of Head and Neck surgery successfully performed 5 ablation cases - the most ever done in a single day and wherein all patients went home without complications.
