Rod Cruz is a TMC Eye & Vision Institute Patient who had his Photo Refractive Keratectomy (PRK) Procedure done at the Lasik Center last June 2021. Experts cite PRK as an alternative to LASIK for patients whose eyes meet certain criteria, such as having thin corneas or chronically dry eyes. 

Why did you have the need for PRK? 

My vision is already at -8.50/9.00 and with astigmatism. Also, I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 8 years old. So PRK is something very beneficial for me.

What made you decide to go to TMC to have your procedure done? What other centers / providers did you consider going to?

For my healthcare needs, I’ve always trusted TMC. I’ve also considered the location of the hospital if ever I’ll be eligible for the surgery since it is very near my home. There was also an ongoing promo back then that made me more interested. 

I considered St. Luke’s for the procedure as well.

What stood out the most about us during your experience here at TMC? 

It’s the overall excellent patient care. Ever since The Lasik Center called me to give me more details on the surgery, to my assessment day, follow up check-ups, random inquiries, until my scheduled date of surgery, until now that I am recovering, I can say that they really took good care of me. They made me comfortable all throughout the process and I didn’t feel the hesitation to ask anything about it. They know me by name even when I call! I don’t have to introduce myself every time I go to the clinic. They really know their patients.

Who were the doctors / specialists who made an impact on you while handling your case? 

All the nurses are very responsive, helpful, and are always approachable. They respond quickly to my calls and texts which I truly appreciate. I cannot remember all their names, but I remember Nurse Ava who’s been constantly handling my case and keeping in touch. I am amazed by how consistent they are when it comes to providing excellent patient care whether you are interacting with a familiar nurse or not. Dr. Lulu (if I remember correctly), was also very kind and accommodating. As for my doctor, Dr. Duyongco-Lenon, she’s very excellent in what she does, has genuine empathy for her patients, and answered all my questions in a way that I can easily understand. I felt like I was very blessed to be her patient.

How happy are you with the results of the procedure? What has the recovery process been like for you? 

I am extremely happy with the result. It’s all worth it. For someone who’s been wearing eyeglasses/contact lenses for almost 20 years, it was truly life changing. 

The recovery process was challenging at first because of the fluctuating vision but it got so much better around 2 weeks after the surgery.

Would you recommend TMC PRK / LASIK services to others? Why or why not? 

Yes, absolutely. You’ll get excellent patient care, the results that you desire, and at a reasonable price. I think it’s the patient care that really made a difference!
