The Medical City (TMC) recently held a cooking demo and public forum on heart-healthy food at the TriNoma Mall Activity Center. Entitled “Eat Your Heart Out,” the forum is the first of four episodes for TMC’s Guilt-Free Gourmet Series, a road show featuring various health issues in relation to healthy eating habits.
“Eat Your Heart Out” featured a cooking demonstration by guest chefs who prepared delectable gourmet dishes with high nutritional value. TMC nutritionist Carol Q. Hernandez engaged the audience with nutritional counsel to complement the featured dishes. Dr. Mariann N. Almajar, along with fellow TMC cardiologists, discussed the importance of the cardiovascular system and how to keep it healthy. Participants also gained further information on managing cardio-related conditions during their one-on-one interactions with TMC’s physicians.
“Adhering to TMC’s patient-partnership philosophy, our Guilt-Free Gourmet Series is a vehicle for empowering our patients, providing accurate, lay-friendly medical information so they can make informed choices when it comes to their health and that of their loved ones,“ explains Dr. Almajar. TMC’s unique value proposition puts emphasis on collaboration between the doctors and patients, creating a special partnership directed at addressing patients’ specific health care needs.
“The Series also complements the thrust of TMC’s Center for Wellness and Aesthetics (CWA), which is committed to a promotive and preventive approach to health care,” says Dr. Rolando A. Balburias, the event’s emcee and Director of the CWA.
Participants also availed of free medical services such as blood pressure checks, random blood sugar tests, cardiovascular health checks, cholesterol screening and nutritional consultation. Lay-friendly informational materials, food samples and tokens were also given away.
“We’re delighted that our forum was well received by the public. We all play a part in safeguarding the nation’s health, and we hope ‘Eat Your Heart Out,’ was able to impart this. In our efforts to expand our brand of health care across the nation, we are already planning to bring the Series to other locations and continue to serve the community. Future topics include liver care and preventive cancer screening,” adds Dr. Balburias.
“Eat Your Heart Out” was co-presented by Del Monte Philippines and Century Tuna.
