(Dededo, GUAM) – Guam Acting Governor Raymond S. Tenorio and Dededo Mayor Melissa B. Savares were the guests of honor and speakers at the recent site blessing and project launch of the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC), a 130-bed tertiary level hospital that will offer world-class health services tailored to the needs of the island and the rest of the Micronesia Region.

The site blessing and project launch began last November 11, 2011 with a cultural performance by Pa’a Taotao Tano’ and was followed by a welcome address by Mayor Savares. Remarks were provided by project proponents Dr. Alfredo R. A. Bengzon, President and CEO of The Medical City and Cezar T. Quiambao, Chairman, Strategic Asia-Pacific Investments, Inc. Most Rev. Anthony Sablan Apuron, OFM CAP., D.D., Metropolitan Archbishop of Agana, led the blessing ceremonies.

Opening its doors in 2014, GRMC will be operated by The Medical City (TMC), a Joint Commission-accredited Philippine healthcare organization that is making a serious bid at global prominence. GRMC’s services will be aligned with TMC’s centers of excellence and the Region’s specific health profile, featuring wellness, cardiology, medical oncology, endocrinology, pulmonology, neurology and other medical and surgical subspecialties. TMC’s unique value proposition of patient empowerment and partnership will enliven all programs and services.

GRMC responds to significant market opportunities, representing a true win-win for its developers / investors and the constituents it seeks to serve. “TMC is committed to delivering its distinct brand of healthcare to the people of Guam. As the hospital operator, we will capitalize on key strengths of our network to ensure high-quality, sustainable operations of the Guam site,” said Dr. Bengzon. “Areas of synergy include service development, quality improvement, staff recruitment and supply chain management.”

For his part, Acting Governor Tenorio pointed to the many benefits of the project. “Of course, quality, specialized healthcare will be much more accessible and affordable. In addition, the project will inject hundreds of millions of dollars, all privately generated, into the economy, and stands to provide hundreds of jobs, further improving the standard of living of all Guam residents,” he said.
