TMC's Center for Liver Disease Management and Transplantation is the first in the Philippines to introduce Fibroscan, a non-invasive alternative for assessing fibrosis. The early detection of fibrosis is key to preventing chronic liver disease, and it can now be performed using his special probe.
TMC’s Center for Liver Disease Management and Transplantation is the first in the Philippines to introduce Fibroscan, a non-invasive alternative for assessing fibrosis. The early detection of fibrosis is key to preventing chronic liver disease, and it can now be performed using his special probe. Pressed gently against the patient’s skin surface, the probe makes use of transient elastography, creating a special pulse whose velocity is measured via ultrasound. The velocity determines how stiff your liver is—the stiffer your liver, the greater the degree of fibrosis, or the formation of scar tissue due to injury or longterm inflammation. Non-invasive, painless and quick, Fibroscan can especially benefit patients with fatty livers or chronic hepatitis B, hemophiliacs, transplant patients, and patients adverse to biopsies.
