Premier health institution The Medical City (TMC) celebrated its 49th year anniversary last October 28 and 29 with the theme “Glancing Back. Looking Inward. Moving Forward. Celebrating the Journey of The Medical City.”
This year’s celebration served as a prelude to a host of events and activities that will mark the health institution’s golden anniversary in October 2017.
A thanksgiving mass was held on October 28 at the hospital’s Augusto Barcelon auditorium, officiated by Pasig City Bishop Mylo Hubert Claudio Vergara.
On October 29, TMC’s milestones exhibit was displayed in the lobby of Makati Shangri-La Hotel Rizal Ballroom where a celebration was held in the evening graced by TMC Board of Directors, senior management, doctors, managers, medical and non-medical staff from TMC Ortigas and from the other network hospitals – TMC Iloilo, Clark, South Luzon and Pangasinan - and clinics.
TMC Chairman of the Board Dr. Augusto P. Sarmiento delivered the opening remarks while President and CEO Dr. Alfredo R.A. Bengzon gave the closing remarks.
Dr. Bengzon likewise led the ceremonial anniversary toast.
“Let us raise our glasses and join us in toasting the 49th Anniversary of The Medical City. Here's to our TMC story -- a colorful past, a strong and amazing present, and an even stronger future. Cheers!”
No less than total performer Gary Valenciano and son Gab wowed the crowd with high energy song and dance routines. Gary V. also serenaded the guests with his rendition of Michael Bolton’s “Go the Distance,” his original song “Babalik ka Rin” and Ang Probinsyano theme song “Wag ka ng Umiyak,” which were among the most applauded song numbers.
TMC’s musically-talented physicians, Men-In-White, and young singer Katrina Velarde performed the intermission numbers.
The momentous event was hosted by Assistant Vice President for Medical Management and Services Development Dr. Christian Delos Reyes and TV5 Sportscaster Mara Aquino.
Forty-nine years ago, TMC began with a vision of service, enlivened by the patients to whom it was committed, the health professional community from which it sprang, and the nation through which it found purpose. And amidst the twists and turns of the ensuing five decades, that vision has remained TMC’s True North.
Drawing strength from its journey, Dr. Bengzon says The Medical City will continue to provide world-class healthcare to its patient partners, “rising to our best and fullest selves as we do, all in the service of the broadest and greatest good.”
