Manila, Philippines: In furtherance of The Medical City’s (TMC) commitment to provide world-class cardiovascular care, TMC’s Cardiac and Vascular Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) has acquired the Artis Zee®Floor—a state-of-the-art multi-purpose imaging system—along with cutting-edge supplementary software. The equipment allows for sharper images of the arteries of the heart, brain, internal organs, and limbs.
The Artis Zee®Floor is most useful to TMC’s interventional adult and pediatric cardiologists, interventional neurosurgeons, interventional radiologists, vascular surgeons, and cardiac rhythm specialists. The high quality images result in a more accurate diagnosis, which leads to precise interventions, such as placing stents to relieve blockages in arteries. The new system requires much less radiation exposure to the patient, shorter procedure times, and less use of dye during the procedure. With its introduction, TMC now features one of the country’s fully equipped catheterization laboratories.
TMC’s Cath Lab also features the following equipment:
Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS), which provides a view from within the coronary arteries and facilitates coronary angioplasty; the Rotablator, which assists in angioplasty of calcified arteries; and the
Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) Analyzer, which provides instantaneous information regarding the functional significance of borderline coronary blockages. The Lab also does electrophysiologic studies with ablation capability, which is used to diagnose and treat potentially dangerous cardiac rhythm irregularities.
“Here at TMC’s Cath Lab, we now have a comprehensive range of cutting-edge equipment that we can utilize for truly personalized patient care. No two patients are alike, which is why acquiring technology which can give us a clearer, more accurate assessment of each patient’s individual case is paramount,” says Dr. Gregorio Martinez, Jr., TMC Cardiac Catheterization Head.
“Through this technology, we can best practice the hospital’s philosophy of patient partnership, letting our patients get better insight into their condition and thus encouraging them to actively participate in the health care process. Moreover, with these new services we are now able to offer the range of cardiovascular care that is available in the most advanced hospitals abroad.”
