The Medical City (TMC) is launching "Your Mind Matters: Guiding You to Better Brain Health" to raise awareness about stroke and other neurological diseases, which are major health concerns in the Philippines.
Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death in the Philippines. According to the Stroke Society of the Philippines, it is the second leading cause of death and the leading cause of disability. Studies also show that stroke-related deaths are higher in lower-middle-income countries like the Philippines, where there are inadequate acute stroke-ready hospitals and poor community stroke awareness, among others. This data proves that there is a growing need for comprehensive and empathetic neurological care in the country.
To address this concern, The Medical City (TMC) is leveraging its expertise and vast network by launching yet another initiative called “Your Mind Matters: Guiding You to Better Brain Health.” With this initiative, patients can expect activities such as “FASTER: Rapid and Ready,” an in-person event with interactive booths and brain-boosting activities, as well as stroke awareness lectures from doctors. The event will also introduce a more comprehensive stroke identifier. Building on the original acronym “FAST” (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) and the updated version “BE FAST” (adding Balance and Eyesight changes), TMC introduces “BE FASTER,” an updated guideline for stroke care that emphasizes the importance of a stroke-ready Emergency room and a guided Recovery journey for every stroke patient.
In addition, TMC will release a series of patient stories that offer hope and proof of the resilience of the human spirit. These narratives will showcase the experiences of individuals who have successfully navigated the challenges of stroke recovery through comprehensive neurological care and timely medical intervention.
TMC’s network of hospitals and clinics nationwide is equipped with expert neurologists, neurosurgeons, and psychiatrists who provide comprehensive neurological and mental health services that can guide patients through every step of their brain health journey, from prevention to time-critical management and recovery. This network-wide effort aims to raise stroke awareness and preparedness among every Filipino, ultimately leading to lower morbidity and mortality cases in the country.
